About Tariq: Professional
Tariq’s professional experience extends over 18 years. A business graduate, he joined Natwest’s Graduate Management programme in 1991. During nine years for the Group he worked in a variety of frontline and strategic roles, culminating in a senior management role as Head of Marketing, Sponsorship and Branding for NatWest’s capital markets division.
In 2000, Tariq moved on to work as part of the executive management team for the US based fund manager Alliance Bernstein. In this role he was responsible for the firm’s marketing function across the EMEA Region and experienced a variety of cultures and international business practices.
In 2004 he joined Sucden Financial a leading commodities trading firm in the City of London.
He currently serves on the Executive Committee of the firm and is Director of Marketing, Strategy and Research and is also heading up the firm’s expansion into the funds arena.
Tariq is an Associate of the Institute of Financial Services
House of Lords
On the 19 November 2010, Tariq was conferred a peerage by HM Queen Elizabeth II and he formally took his oath and his seat in the Lords on the 17 January 2011. He was introduced into the House of Lords by Chairman of the Conservative Party Rt Hon Baroness Warsi and Former Leader of the Conservative Party the Rt Hon Michael Howard.
